BENGALURU, INDIA (Supantha Mukherjee and Abhirup Roy, Reuters) – The top three global PC makers would be able to raise market share in the next few years through consolidation amid shrinking sales of personal computers, Dell Inc Chief Executive Michael Dell said on Monday.
Lenovo Group Ltd tops global PC shipment ranking with a 20.3 percent market share, followed by Hewlett-Packard Co at 18.5 percent and Dell at 14.5 percent, according to research firm International Data Corp.
The top three companies could corner about 80 percent of the market in the next 5 to 7 years, Dell said at a roundtable conference with journalists in Bengaluru, India.
“In the first half of this year, we outgrew the two in notebooks and we have grown now 10 quarters in a row,” Dell said.
IDC last month forecast PC shipments to fall 8.7 percent this year, steeper than its earlier estimate of a 6.2 percent decline, and said they are expected to return to growth in 2017.
Once the leader in personal computers sales, Dell, like its peers, has been hit by a rapidly declining PC market as consumers move to smartphones and tablets.
The PC maker was taken private in a $ 24.9 billion buyout in 2013 by its CEO and his private equity partner, Silver Lake, after months of battling with investors who claimed the offer undervalued the company.
“Being a private company has certainly allowed us to focus our future more on 3 years, 5 years, 10 years out and get away from the short-term orientation that public companies often find themselves in,” he said.
Michael Dell has been trying to transform the company he founded in 1984 into a complete provider of enterprise computing services such as HP or IBM.
“We have been able to grow even though the (PC) market is shrinking and of course our business goes well beyond the device into data center, software, services and security,” Dell said.
Dell, however, said that the company does not plan to enter the smartphone business, unlike rival Microsoft Corp, which bought Nokia’s phone business in 2014.
“I think there are maybe only one or two companies who make a profit in the smartphone business today and there are quite a few companies that lose substantial sums of money in the smartphone business,” Dell said.
“So, no thank you! I do not want to be in the smartphone business.”

Video-streaming service Netflix is reportedly planning to enter the South Korean market in January 2016, with an official announcement due in the coming weeks, according to a report by The Korea Times on Sunday.
Netflix only just launched in Japan last week, where it partnered with local carrier SoftBank to have its app pre-installed on phones in the country — and it looks like it may be counting on a similar strategy to navigate South Korea.
According to the newspaper, the company is “seeking to form strategic partnerships with Korean mobile carriers and leading terrestrial broadcasters.” The three largest carriers in the country are SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus.
Netflix seems to be locked in a fierce expansion race with rival Amazon, which offers its own video-streaming service, and recently also announced a September launch for Japan — though Amazon’s service is not yet available in South Korea.
The newspaper cited its sources as saying:
Korean carriers and broadcasters are underway to discuss licensing their content to Netflix in Korea. For Netflix, the main issue is how to cut costs in content delivery and lower its spending for network usage… Conditions in Korea are as favorable or better than they are in Japan for acceptance of Netflix’s on-demand services because the infrastructure in networks in Korea is already in place with households having easy access to broadband lines and mobile services.
And on why Netflix needs to strike deals with the South Korean carriers to succeed there:
When you see more data traffic, then Netflix will pay more for the delivery of content. However, charges of its main services were low, and that’s why Netflix needs substantial help from Korean carriers which operate networks. Netflix is on track to narrow differences over content licensing… Netflix’s advance in Korea will be helpful to local carriers to help them set up strategies in content business and also allow Korea’s media content to reach a global audience.
The sources also predict an impending doomsday for local broadcasters in South Korea — which will face growing competition from services such as Netflix and possibly Amazon — if they “fail to catch up with such changes.”
Netflix also has upcoming launch plans in a number of other markets including Italy, Portugal, Spain, Iceland, and the Czech Republic. It has previously said that it plans to be available in more than 200 countries by the end of 2016.
We’ve reached out to Netflix for comment, and will update you if we hear back.

Google Compute Engine, the company’s IaaS cloud computing offering, got a facelift today with the announcement that new autoscaling features and 32-core VMs would be available to the general public.
Autoscaler, according to an official blog post, is the same system that Google itself uses to dynamically scale the number of VMs being used by a given application based on load – users set utilization targets, and the autoscaling system spins up or shuts down VMs in order to keep, say, RAM utilization at 50%. The idea is to remove the need for extensive capacity planning and management, Google said.

GUEST:
John Koetsier’s recent report, “Marketing Clouds: How the best companies are winning via marketing technology,” was full of great insights into where marketing clouds are headed. It also found that marketing cloud users have barely scratched the surface when it comes to video, revealing that only about 20 percent of the 1,500 marketers surveyed use the video marketing tools featured in their marketing cloud solutions.
Some of the commentary I’ve read on the report made me think I would need to find a new career path. (I’m the CEO and cofounder of the video marketing and analytics platform Vidyard.) But rather than see this as a sign that video hasn’t caught on, I see the results as an opportunity for video. Five years ago, if someone had asked marketers about their use of social media technology, only about 20 percent would have said they were invested there, too. Look how far social has come. Just about every company now has a person, if not a team, dedicated to social. We’re already starting to see the same thing with video, and adoption is hitting an exponential curve.
Video is poised for huge growth in both B2B and B2C marketing. That’s what I see in all the other data and anecdotal evidence about video. My own company has seen 1,000-percent growth in customers using video platform technology in the last two years. Last year, a joint report from the Content Marketing Institute and MarketingProfs found that video ranked higher than white papers, infographics and research reports for content marketing, and was up 6 points over 2013.
From VentureBeat
And that doesn’t even take into account the big picture statistics on online video. Internet prognosticator extraordinaire Mary Meeker predicts that, by 2017, 74 percent of all internet traffic will be video. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have all made bets on video recently.
So clearly video is working, and there’s going to be more of it. Then why is the 20 percent number so low?
There are a couple of things going on here. First, video capabilities within marketing clouds and marketing automation platforms are pretty minimal at this point. While they support the ability to embed videos within marketing campaigns and web pages, most do not even offer video hosting capabilities, let alone tools to track audience engagement or detailed viewer analytics. With little native video functionality, it’s not surprising to see that most marketers haven’t adopted the video technology offered within their marketing cloud. But that doesn’t mean solutions aren’t out there or that customers aren’t adopting video technology as a fast pace. Third-party video marketing platforms offer rich integrations with marketing clouds such as Hubspot, ExactTarget, Salesforce, Eloqua and Marketo to help marketers integrate video with their various campaigns and digital channels, and even track the second-by-second viewing behavior of each customer and prospect to enhance qualification and nurturing. Other technologies help to serve video ads to targeted accounts across multiple networks while still others enable marketers to generate 1-to-1 personalized videos to boost audience engagement.
Meanwhile, many companies that are doing video are doing it without getting the full benefits. They’re posting videos to YouTube or even on their own websites, but they aren’t taking advantage of the tools that would come from a video marketing platform. Analytics are often a big part of the marketing cloud sales pitch (and the most-used feature according to John’s research), but when it comes to video, marketing clouds don’t offer very impressive analytics. Like YouTube, they might give you vanity metrics such as total views, views-by-day or even views-by-device. Those are nice and all, but they don’t necessarily help turn prospects into customers, and isn’t that ultimately the goal of marketing? When marketers fully commit to video, they want to know by name who watched their videos. They want to know whether the person watched the entire video or turned it off after 10 seconds. They want to be able to use an entertaining top-of-funnel video to point potential customers to more detailed materials that guide them along the buying journey.
Marketing clouds simply aren’t there yet, so it’s no wonder only 20 percent of marketers are using marketing clouds for video. But with the incredible success marketers are seeing with video to boost SEO, engagement time and conversions rates, you can bet that adoption of video and related technologies will continue to grow rapidly. We’ll just have to wait and see if the marketing clouds bring advanced video technology natively into their platforms or if it remains the domain of those solution-providers that offer core expertise in video marketing.

Google has a new logo, but its purpose goes far beyond a new design. It’s a gateway into today’s reality in which people use multiple digital devices throughout the day.
VMware has updated its stack of data center virtualization software, rounding out capabilities that allow an organization to run an entire data center operation and related cloud services as a single unified entity.
Among the new additions are components to the vCloud Air suite of software for running cloud services. The company has expanded its network virtualization software to provide more ways of moving a workload across a data center. And it has also released a new version of its OpenStack distribution for running cloud workloads.
VMware believes that the architecture best suited to deliver enterprise and cloud-native applications is one based on virtualizing organizations’ compute, network, and storage resources so they can be delivered on multiple platforms, said Mark Chuang, VMware senior director of product marketing and management.

Will the EMC Federation break up, as a flurry of recent reports have suggested? VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger, for one, believes one of the most prominent alliances of companies in the technology industry is still the best management structure.
“My view on this hasn’t changed,” Gelsinger told Network World in a wide-ranging interview. “Being bigger and more strategic as a whole is a more powerful position for the companies and we believe that, through this period, the Federation structure is the best one for both customers as well as for the companies and employees themselves.”

It is not always easy for organizations to stay in touch with customers, partners and employees through home communities. With Salesforce’s new Community Cloud, companies can create their communities, in the LinkedIn style, but for their customers, partners and employees.
Built on the Salesforce Community Cloud Platform – via Connect API – companies can directly connect to Salesforce CRM and data sources and third-party systems. In this way, companies can deliver better service to their customers, more sales through partners and increase employee engagement. Salesforce research shows that digital communities guarantee 48 percent faster problem resolution, a 48 percent increase in employee engagement, 45 percent more customer satisfaction and 43 percent increase in sales through partners.
Community Cloud has a new feature called Targeted Recommendations which seeks to promote user engagement on these sites. The new feature, which is based on algorithms that analyze structured and unstructured data, is designed to bring members of the community the most relevant content, as inputs, resources, files and groups. The community managers can suggest content to specific information or an ad in the news and direct it to a group member type or a specific individual.
The second new feature now available is called Lightning Community Builder and Templates, and allows any business user community to deploy a customized, branded and optimized for mobile devices without the need to seek the help of IT. Companies can use Lightning Builder to create your own custom communities with custom applications. For example, a non-profit institution could build an application to organize volunteer events and incorporate it into the home page of your community.
Finally, Salesforce Connect for Google Drive Files is a new feature that allows community members to share any file created or stored in Google Drive. Thus, a marketing team could share a file from Google with the campaign planning group to easily access and work on it. You can also attach files within Google Drive to a record, as sales opportunities or service case.
According to IDC, the enterprise collaboration market was $ 1.24 billion in 2014, and the market expected to reach $ 3.5 billion in 2018, an annual growth of 23.1%. The sector as defined by IDC includes software for collaboration internally and externally. Other major players such as IBM Connections, Microsoft Yammer, Jive Software, Tibco Tibbr, Zimbra and SAP Jam also have a foot in this market.
Last year, Microsoft and Salesforce have signed a strategic partnership to create new solutions that will enable you to connect the platform and the CRM app to Windows and Office apps. The agreement provides that the Salesforce CRM solution is integrated with the Windows OS, the Azure cloud platform and the office suite Office 365.

We’ve seen Twitter freakouts before, but this is one for the books.
The creator of Minecraft, Markus Persson, took to Twitter early Saturday with all sorts of torments and searching questions about his current life, and his former life as the creator and owner of one of the most important games in history, the Lego-like block-building game Minecraft.
Persson and the company he co-founded, Mojang AB, sold the company and Minecraft to Microsoft for $ 2.5 billion in September of 2014.
From VentureBeat
Persson become a rich person from the sale of his creation, but a year later he doesn’t seem to be settling into post-Minecraft life as easily as he probably hoped.
The fun began in the wee hours Saturday with this tweet:
The problem with getting everything is you run out of reasons to keep trying, and human interaction becomes impossible due to imbalance.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
And this one shortly after:
Hanging out in ibiza with a bunch of friends and partying with famous people, able to do whatever I want, and I’ve never felt more isolated.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
A few minutes later, Persson talks despairingly about his new life back in his home country.
In sweden, I will sit around and wait for my friends with jobs and families to have time to do shit, watching my reflection in the monitor.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
He obviously misses the days when he had his Sisyphean rock to roll up the hill.
When we sold the company, the biggest effort went into making sure the employees got taken care of, and they all hate me now.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
A couple minutes later. Persson’s life sounds a little crazy. Even keeping a girlfriend is hard.
Found a great girl, but she’s afraid of me and my life style and went with a normal person instead.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
At 2:59 a.m. Uses “Musk” as a verb.
Again, Persson suggests that he regrets selling his creation, Minecraft.
I would Musk and try to save the world, but that just exposes me to the same type of assholes that made me sell minecraft again.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
By 3:16, some (rich) friends have intervened and Persson starts to cool down.
People who made sudden success are telling me this is normal and will pass. That’s good to know! I guess I’ll take a shower then!
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
After a long, dark night, things are looking brighter at 9:39 a.m. this morning.
And just venting and not feeling like I had to hide made it feel a bit easier to cope with already. ❤
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
Then he gets stung by a Jellyfish.
A jellyfish stung my knee. Surprisingly didn’t hurt that much, and at least two people offered what I would consider a bad solution.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 29, 2015
I probably shouldn’t make light of Persson’s problems. But there’s something superficial about a rich and relatively famous person spilling out his problems in 140-character blasts to all his fans and followers on Twitter. And sure enough, there were plenty of Twitter users to offer support.
There’s no doubting the fact that Persson made a huge contribution to the gaming world.
Across PC, consoles, and mobile, people have downloaded Minecraft more than 60 million times. Despite first coming on to the scene in 2009 and releasing as a full game in 2011, the game continues to outsell most other software every month into 2015.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed in an interview with the New York Times that HoloLens was one of the major reasons his company bought Minecraft and developer Mojang. Now, Minecraft will serve as a centerpiece of the HoloLens platform moving forward.
Here’s to better days, Markus Persson. Get off Twitter and go start a new company.

The Amazon Underground app for Android launched today with a new business model. The in-app items, which are usually available for purchase, are available for free in the games and apps available under the new app. Amazon will compensate the developers based on pay per usage.
If the new model takes off, it could provide an interesting path to revenues for companies that are struggling with micro-transactions in the free-to-play business model, where players can get a game or app for free and then pay for in-app items. Amazon said it is offering $ 10,000 worth of apps and items for free through the app.

A private cloud is defined as a single tenant, committed hardware platform which runs virtualisation software to provide an organisation with facilities for running virtual machines and related services. Offered that the infrastructure is not shared, efficiency and compliance is often guaranteed, and full handle of allocated resources is held by the organisation. This presents a considerable benefit more than public cloud solutions where a lot of virtual machines could be competing for exactly the same resources on the underlying platform.
A standard hardware platform involves numerous higher efficiency host servers that present the compute sources to run the virtual machines, together with network accessible disk storage inside the type of 1 or additional SANs. Cautious attention requires to become paid towards the specification in the infrastructure to ensure service levels are accomplished and application performance is satisfactory. In particular, the SANs performs a essential part in general program performance.
Several existing private cloud deployments are on-site at an organisation’s personal premises, requiring significant ongoing maintenance and staff knowledge. Furthermore hardware refreshes of systems is usually pricey and hard to implement. A hosted private cloud using a service provider is therefore an attractive option permitting an organisation to benefit from higher service levels along with the latest managed cloud infrastructure for a predictable monthly service fee.
Within a private cloud hosting atmosphere, network switching can either be shared or devoted. By utilising a shared network atmosphere, expenses may be reduced with little important influence on application functionality by utilising the networking infrastructure with the service provider. For organisations with compliance requirements committed network switches will probably be required. Whichever solution is selected a detailed examination of bandwidth usage and failover redundancy must be carried out.
A very good service level agreement is vital when picking a service provider. You will have to have to ensure that you will discover fixed response instances to any troubles no matter the time of day, using a monetary penalty when the service provider fails to deliver. A 3rd party reference is typically the best route to satisfying yourself of a service providers suitability.
Moving to private cloud hosting offers many positive aspects to today’s enterprises, freeing IT departments from day to day maintenance and assistance. Together with the ideal service provider a private cloud is often a fantastic driver of enterprise growth and client satisfaction.

One of the most salient examples of cloud computing are likely to fall into the public cloud model due to the fact they may be, by definition, publicly readily available. Computer software as a Service (SaaS) offerings for instance cloud storage and on line workplace applications are maybe essentially the most familiar, but widely offered Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings, which includes cloud based net hosting and improvement environments, can adhere to the model also (though all may also exist inside private clouds). Public clouds are used extensively in offerings for private folks who’re less most likely to require the level of infrastructure and security provided by private clouds. Even so, enterprise can nevertheless utilise public clouds to make their operations drastically a lot more efficient, for instance, using the storage of non-sensitive content material, online document collaboration and webmail.
The public model offers the following functions and added benefits:
Cloud sources are out there on demand in the public clouds’ vast pools of resource so that the applications that run on them can respond seamlessly to fluctuations in activity.
Expense effective; public clouds bring collectively greater levels of resource and so can benefit from the largest economies of scale. The centralised operation and management with the underlying resources is shared across all of the subsequent cloud services whilst components, including servers, demand less bespoke configuration. Some mass market place propositions can even be no cost to the client, relying on advertising for their income.
Utility style costing; public cloud solutions usually employ a pay-as-you-go charging model whereby the consumer will be in a position to access the resource they require, when they need to have it, and then only spend for what they use; as a result avoiding wasted capacity
Reliability; the sheer quantity of servers and networks involved in creating a public cloud and also the redundancy configurations mean that must 1 physical component fail, the cloud service would nevertheless run unaffected around the remaining components. In some cases, where clouds draw resource from numerous information centres, a whole information centre could go offline and individual cloud services would endure no ill impact. There is certainly, in other words, no single point of failure which would make a public cloud service vulnerable
Flexibility; you will find a myriad of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS solutions available out there which adhere to the public cloud model and that are prepared to become accessed as a service from any internet enabled device. These services can fulfil most computing requirements and can provide their added benefits to private and enterprise clients alike. Businesses can even integrate their public cloud solutions with private clouds, exactly where they need to have to execute sensitive enterprise functions, to create hybrid clouds
The availability of public cloud solutions through an internet connection ensures that the solutions are offered wherever the client is positioned. This gives invaluable opportunities to enterprise such as remote access to IT infrastructure (in case of emergencies and so forth) or on-line document collaboration from a number of locations.

It’s necessary to select the appropriate host to run your web site to start your personal website for your business or private one, selecting a web host is one of the most essential decisions. There has a lot of web hosting enterprise in marketplace. I’m giving you some tips to find the very best web hosting provider:

Anything else to look for with web hosting providers is that they offer you some way to see no matter whether or not other prospects are content. This commonly comes inside the kind of consumer satisfaction surveys which can be publicly produced accessible to everyone. Another concept would be to appear around to determine in the event you can find any really serious complaints posted about the company. 1 point to bear in mind is that occasionally individuals with petty grievances will make it their mission to run around claiming that the company is usually a scam. So you will need to be in a position to distinguish in between what is actual and what is noise.

These discounts are seasonal in nature and it truly is significant that one particular tends to make use of these opportunities to actually get hooked on to affordable hosting providers with no getting to compromise around the top quality front.
When we discuss low-cost hosting providers, we definitely get extremely sceptical and cautious. That is simply because with low-priced hosting providers, the excellent of the service provided by them comes beneath. And this probably what is of people today considering that cheap hosting providers will not be very trusted and trustworthy.
